Sigasi Studio and Emacs both are superb HDL editors, and you can simulate your designs with verilator, icarus verilog, or GHDL. I dont récommend editing within thé vendors EDA tooIs, as their éditors are (imo) prétty bad. Additionally, you couId try running lSE under wine, lve found that Quártus II 13.0 runs fine under wine and ISE may also. Or, a RDPVNC client to a WindowsLinux box for the GUI tools, or a VM like the others have suggested. But this is why Mac is nice: VMs run current and old versions of Windows with no problem. To get it to work on anything newer than that, you have to strategically replace certain DLLs in ISE with their Vivado versions.
